[Geylang, Singapore] Florescent blues and pinks from the brothels’ neon signs used to lit up the dark alleyways, and you could find sex workers sitting on the chairs or lining the back alleys, dark corners along the streets in Geylang, a bustling yet infamous vice city here in Singapore.

But the sight today is vastly different, as I picked up my camera and wandered down Lorong 17, the whole place was almost like a ghost town, the brightly lit brothels (or also known as “fish tanks”) in my memories look like run-down terrace houses instead.

A friend who is working as a hawker nearby said, the falling foot traffic had pushed the sex business online, while some of the pimps and prostitutes become food delivery drivers to make ends meet, since they couldn’t “maintain safety distancing” with their “clients”. I swear he chuckled when he told me that. 📍Singapore.🇸🇬
